The Circle Game

There are 8 artists (4 from Belgium + 4 from Scandanavia) and 3 locations in the 72 hour Circle Game. In round one of this game, each artist installs a work in the gallery (location 1), before exiting onto the streets (location 2) to observe, interact, intervene and invent, as what is originally shown in the gallery as a finished work, becomes a starting point for something else: active creation. Finally, new objects made (or taken) from the street, are placed into a Vitrine (location 3), which showcases the traces of the potential relationship between: gallery, city and eventual collection or legacy. The Vitrine represents an art vault. The Streets are seen as a construction site ripe with resources. The gallery doubles as art space and base camp for critical exchange.

A map at the end of this corridor, indicates where each artist is during the course of the game, and provides pseudo real time documentation of what is happening, where and when. Some of the artists know the city in depth. Others are here for the very first time. It's a game that plays with notions of familiarity, immigration and exploration of urban and art spaces, in order to question conventional art production and encourage participants and viewers to formulate alternatives.
